Altair Chemical continuously invests in innovation and development, turning cutting-edge ideas into patented solutions that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of chemical processes.
Each patent represents a step forward for the industry, helping redefine production standards through safer, higher-performing, and lower-impact technologies. With a strong focus on research and experimentation, we develop new processes and materials that respond to industrial challenges with tangible, forward-looking solutions.
European Regulation (2005/396/EC) set the maximum acceptable chlorate level in food as 0.01 mg/kg.
Altair Chemical patented an industrial dechlorination process for KOH (potassium hydroxide). at its Saline di Volterra (PI) facility – the first in Europe adopting membrane-cell technology back in 2008.
The plant is capable of removing all potassium chlorate (KClO₃) building up during the electrolysis of KCl brine.
By acting directly on the raw material, that is, brine, the process purifies the final product (KOH).
This enables the production of health-conscious products suitable for all consumers, including those with specific dietary requirements.
