PPA with Solar Power Plant in Lazio

In June 2022, Altair Chemical signed ten-year Corporate PPA agreements with Axpo Italia — the leading renewable energy producer in Switzerland — and Sistema Rinnovabili, a renewable energy producer. This marked a key step in achieving the company’s environmental and economic sustainability goals.

This ground-breaking agreement, among the first in Italy, represents a pivotal instrument for the development of new energy infrastructure and is essential to meeting decarbonization and energy independence targets.

In short, a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a medium- to long-term contract that enables a company to purchase electricity directly from renewable energy plants.

The international geopolitical context has further accelerated the rollout of renewable energy projects in Italy, supporting the country’s energy transition and strengthening energy supply self-reliance.

Specifically, the electricity is generated by the Agro Solar I S.r.l. solar power plant, part of the Sistema Rinnovabili group — a renewable utility company focused on the development of large-scale solar power plants and the acquisition and management of existing assets.

Axpo Italia has been supplying Altair Chemical with approximately 43,800 MWh  clean energy per year since July 1, 2022, at a guaranteed fixed price for the entire duration of the Corporate PPA.

Decarbonization is not only a strategic environmental choice, but also an opportunity for innovation and economic growth. The agreement with Axpo Italia and Sistema Rinnovabili provides access to certified clean energy, helping reduce emissions at Altair Chemical facilities and supporting the expansion of renewable sources in Italy — consistently with the company development plan.

The ultimate goal is to achieve full energy independence from external suppliers through continuous investment in self-generated energy from CO-free renewable sources. This agreement is a major milestone towards this goal and will be followed by further equally significant initiatives.
