{"id":4934,"date":"2025-03-12T12:07:41","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T11:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.altairchemical.com\/our-sustainable-energy-hydropower-solar-and-cogeneration-for-a-low-emission-future\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T17:34:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T16:34:02","slug":"our-sustainable-energy-hydropower-solar-and-cogeneration-for-a-low-emission-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.altairchemical.com\/en\/our-sustainable-energy-hydropower-solar-and-cogeneration-for-a-low-emission-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Our sustainable energy: hydropower, solar and cogeneration for a low-emission future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>65% of the energy we use is CO\u2082-free.<\/p>\n<p>63% comes from renewable sources.<\/p>\n<p>73% is produced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our path toward the energy transition is clear:<\/strong> we aim for an energy mix that minimizes environmental impact while improving the efficiency of our production processes.<\/p>\n<p>Our energy is deeply rooted in the local area: the Pieve Vergonte plant is powered by <strong>two company-owned hydroelectric stations<\/strong>, Megolo and Ceppo Morelli, which together provide 18 MW of installed capacity, transforming the power of water into clean energy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Solar energy is another cornerstone of our strategy:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Since 2021, 43,800 MWh\/year have come from agrivoltaic plants in the Lazio region through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)<\/li>\n<li>In 2022, we invested \u20ac11 million to establish Renewability, a consortium company that supplies us with 12,000 MWh\/year from photovoltaic systems in Lazio and Abruzzo<\/li>\n<li>Two photovoltaic systems in Saline di Volterra produce 350 MWh\/year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And we\u2019re not stopping there: our energy needs are also met by <strong>two high-efficiency natural gas cogeneration units<\/strong>\u2014one 4.6 MWe <strong>gas turbine <\/strong>and one 2 MWe internal combustion engine. Innovation allows us to repurpose waste too: part of the exhaust gases from the gas turbine cogenerator are now used to produce potassium carbonate, capturing carbon dioxide and further increasing the CO\u2082-free share of our energy, while reducing our overall environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p>This is our path toward a <strong>more sustainable industrial future.<\/strong> We continue to invest, innovate, and transform\u2014reducing our footprint and making chemistry increasingly responsible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>65% of the energy we use is CO\u2082-free. 63% comes from renewable sources. 73% is produced.
