An important new milestone in the industrial relaunch of Altair Chemical’s plant in Piedmont.
Acquired in 2019 as part of a ministerial crisis-management process and relaunched through more than €50 million in investments, the site has undergone a major technological, production and organisational transformation over the past few years.
Today, the plant produces derivatives from the electrolysis of sodium chloride and potassium chloride, including caustic soda and caustic potash, as well as sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid and organic chlorine derivatives.
These products are essential to numerous industrial supply chains but are characterised by high energy intensity. In the chlor-alkali sector, one of the industries considered hard to abate, energy is a key factor for production continuity, competitiveness and the progressive reduction of environmental impacts.
Renewable energy generated by the Megolo and Ceppo Morelli hydroelectric power plants plays a central role in the site’s development, covering a significant share of its energy requirements.
