From environmental problem to valuable resource

We believe in the circular economy and work every day to make it a reality. A concrete example is the Ferric Chloride project, developed at our Saline di Volterra plant in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pisa. This initiative was awarded the Sustainable Development Prize in the Circular Economy category at Ecomondo – Italian Exhibition Group 2024.

Through an innovative process, we recover spent hydrochloric acid from a steel mill located just 80 km from our site. What would otherwise be an environmental disposal issue becomes a strategic resource: a key raw material for producing high-quality ferric chloride, used in new applications for drinking water treatment and wastewater purification

The result? A true circular economy. We cut ferrous raw material purchases by 25%, optimize transport, and significantly reduce emissions nationwide. We transform an industrial waste stream into a sustainable product—essential for water purification and environmental protection.
